HOW OUR STORY BEGAN
It was early 2012, and our founding inspiration for the store was Jessie and Jack, both shown below. As loyal and loving family members, we wanted the best for them. And even though there were pet stores in the surrounding communities, they were all chain stores that simply sold supplies.
They weren't locally owned or operated, they didn't prioritize quality and service, and they even delivered poor advise to us on occasion.
So I guess you could say that they were also inspiration for The Dog Spot.
We wanted things to change. Not just for Jessie and Jack, but also for the community. We wanted "old school" retail to return locally, and we wanted honest advise, not quick advise. Nor did we want to always feel like we were being upsold by the directions of a head office. We wanted to know people (and dogs) by name, and we wanted people to feel confident that nothing on the shelves could or would be harmful to the health of their pets. Even in this fast paced world dominated by social media and faceless corporations, we knew that people, at their very core, believe in the power, difference, and benefits of local. Great customer service, motivated by honesty and a shared sense of community, without sacrificing quality or value. Improving those qualities, is what we've always prioritized.
And so here we are. Truly local, since 2012.
And who is George you might ask? We rescued George a mere two months after opening our doors. He was a 14 year old Lab that couldn't find a home. So we gave him one. He didn't have the energy of Jack and Jessie, but he had love and wisdom like never seen before. He was the quiet King. He came to the store frequently during the short remainder of his life, and was happiest lying behind the counter and testing treats.
At home, his favourite place to be was wherever Emmett was.
Jessie, Jack, and George no longer walk this earth. But they will never ever be forgotten.

Motivating us today are family members Maizy and Roxy, as seen below. Much different personalities than their predecessors, but the exact same levels of loyalty and love. We take great pride in the responsibility of treating them with respect, and caring for their health. The exact same way that we treat dogs of all of our amazing customers.
